If you have ever given up on SPF because it stung your eyes, pilled under makeup or left you looking like a ghost in photos, you are not alone — and you are also exactly why the best Korean sunscreens have taken over UK bathroom shelves. Korean SPF formulas are famous for feeling like skincare rather than sun cream: light, hydrating, invisible, and pleasant enough that you will actually reapply them.
We have spent this summer testing what is landing at Lengbox HQ, and below are the eight we keep coming back to. Every one is in stock and ready to post today.
Three things, mostly.
One myth worth binning: you still need SPF in the UK. UVA passes through cloud and window glass, and British summer is more than capable of catching you out on a grey day in Manchester.
If you want one bottle to rule them all, make it this one. The Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturising Sun Cream has been Korea's top-selling sunscreen for a reason: it is SPF50+ PA++++, sinks in within seconds, leaves zero white cast, and the birch sap base keeps normal-to-dry skin comfortable all day. It is our most-recommended SPF in the shop and the one we hand to sceptics.
You have seen it on TikTok, and the hype is largely deserved. Relief Sun is a lightweight, slightly dewy SPF50+ PA++++ with 30% rice extract, and at under £14 it is one of the best value bottles in K-beauty. Brilliant under makeup, brilliant on a bare face. If you want the whole line, browse the full Beauty of Joseon collection.
Centella asiatica remains K-beauty's calming hero, and the SKIN1004 Water-Fit Sun Serum pairs it with hyaluronic acid in a genuinely serum-like texture. If your skin runs warm and easily irritated, this is the gentle-feeling one. It comes in 50ml and 100ml, and there is more like it in our Centella (Cica) collection.
If your skin is on the sensitive side but you want something that feels like a light lotion rather than a serum, the PURITO SEOUL Wonder Releaf Centella Daily Sun Lotion is a lovely daily driver. Centella-led, comfortable, fragrance-light and generous at 60ml — it is the kind of SPF you will happily use every single morning without thinking about it. A brilliant first step into K-beauty sun care, and it plays nicely with the rest of our PURITO range.
Oily and combination skin, this is your shout. The Sebum Zero Aloerice Sun Cream is SPF50+ PA++++, vegan, and finishes soft-matte without that tight, powdery feeling. There is a 5ml travel size for under a fiver if you would like to try before committing.
Reapplication is where most of us fall down, and a stick is the fix. Swipe the Matte Sun Stick straight over makeup at lunchtime — no rubbing, no mess, no excuse. It lives in a handbag beautifully.
Hydrating, weightless and endlessly wearable, the TOCOBO CICA Calming Sun Serum is the one that converts people who claim they hate SPF. Great for dehydrated skin that still wants a fresh, non-greasy finish.
Half primer, half sun protection, all glow. The Artless Glow Base blurs redness and gives skin a lit-from-within finish under foundation — a lovely shortcut on days when you want fewer steps.
Here is the unglamorous truth: most people apply roughly a third of what they should, which quietly downgrades an SPF50 to something far weaker. Aim for two finger-lengths of product for the face and neck, or roughly a five-pence-coin-sized blob.
A quick shortcut: dry or normal skin → Round Lab Birch Juice. Oily or combination → BE THE SKIN Sebum Zero. Sensitive or redness-prone → SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica, PURITO Wonder Releaf Centella or TOCOBO CICA. Makeup wearers → HEIMISH Artless Glow Base, with the Beauty of Joseon Sun Stick for top-ups. Not sure? Start with Relief Sun — it suits almost everybody.
SPF50+ with a PA++++ rating gives you the broadest everyday protection, and since UVA is present year-round and passes through cloud and glass, a high-protection daily SPF is a sensible habit even on grey days.
Most chemical Korean sunscreens — including all the picks above — are designed to be invisible on skin. Mineral formulas are more likely to leave a cast, so if that is a concern, stick with the watery gel and serum textures.
Yes — sunscreen goes on last, after your moisturiser and before makeup. Let each layer settle for a minute and everything will sit far more comfortably.
SPF measures protection against UVB (the burning rays). PA, rated from PA+ to PA++++, measures protection against UVA. You want both.
Many are formulated to be lightweight and non-greasy, which tends to suit oilier, breakout-prone skin better than heavy Western sun creams. Look for gel and serum textures such as the SKIN1004, PURITO or BE THE SKIN options above.

And if you would rather have the discovering done for you, the Lengbox Monthly K-Beauty Subscription Box lands on your doormat each month with a curated edit of Korean skincare — full-size heroes, seasonal picks and the new launches we are excited about, from £35.
